The line between matron and fashion maven is slim these days with grandmother knitwear taking on avant garde appreciators. We like to think of it as the Calender Girl's Affect. An otherwise humdrum country pastime like baking, gardening, watercolors or in this case knitting becomes just a little bit sexier when you take off a few articles of clothing.

We think this Mayle Rosetta Cardigan is a perfect example. But the little bow says Nana but remove an layer underneath and suddenly it says naughty.

Cece Black Long V-Neck Cashmere Cardigan

The cardigan apparently originated with James Brudenell The 7th Earl of Cardigan. He led the Charge of the Light Brigade into battle during the Crimean War. The long sleeved knitted worsted military jacket his army officers wore was trimmed with fur or braid down the front. This style later become the functional knitted garment we know today with a buttoned and occasionally trimmed front and long sleeves.

We love this Cece Black Long V-Neck Cashmere Cardigan as a simple black cardigan with a wealth of wardrobe versatility. We can't totally vouch for its lack of pilling but its as good a basic as you will find.

                  We don't know why but we have excellent luck with Daryl K. His sweaters never pill, they always flatter, and his muted colors make them very versatile. But we do think he is kind of overpriced. Thus we do our best only to ever buy him on sale. Thankfully Bluefly has the answer. We love this Daryl K Adobe Brown Stretch Wool Wrap Top


Simple in form and color but with a little drape to keep you stylish. We think it will flatter most body types frankly. Plus the blend of modal (one of the trendy fabrics new eco fabrics) and wool makes it cozy but NOT itchy.
